Last year, my friends decided it would be fun to have a "small plate" Thanksgiving. There was a lot of talk about whether this would work. In the end, I spent most of the day in the kitchen helping plate food. I guess you have try everything once but I want to be clear that this would be my last as well. I missed being with friends and family. This year we are helping host at a friends house and the count is up to 50. We divided out the menu amongst a few families and we are signed up for appetizers, sides and a Turkey which Alex has decided to cook "Peking" style. I agreed to do the stuffing, a couple of appetizers, the no Flavo-Ridges Cranberry sauce and a couple of desserts. My plan is to have everything done by the time we get to our friends house. My only job will be to sit my butt down on a couch, watch football, drink wine and knit my new blanket. Here is some more detail on the menu:
Appetizers: Satsumas (remember there are 50 people), Candied Pecans
Stuffing: Rustic bread, fresh herbs (rosemary, sage, thyme, garlic), onions, carrots, celery, pear, macadamia nuts, butter
Sides: Chestnut & Potato Puree, Red Wine Braised Cabbage & Onions, Smashed Potatoes, Haircots Verts w/ Ginger, Sweet Potato Au Gratin w/Chipotle
Desserts: Mini pumpkin cheesecakes*, Cranberry/Pear pies
*I found these amazing mini-cheesecake pans - you can buy them for a premium if you are in a bind (like I was) or order them at a small discount if you are a better planner.
